Do you have a clean room at hand ? If not you shouldn't open the harddisk 
casing. Then you could try alternating magnetic fields, with enough strength 
to induce electric currents in the casing, which would possibly produce 
strong enough magnetic fields in the interior,  to erase the surfaces of the 
disk platters. Mhhh, you might need to cool the casing, it could simply melt 
down from induced heat. All in all, nothing practical.... :)
